Episode 02 - Roll 002 - The Second Roll

Hello again,

Roll number two is from the same expired batch of Tmax P 3200 as roll number one. Both of them were developed in the same tank, same chemistry, and at the same time. The main difference is that I rated this film at 800 iso instead of 1600, which in my opinion, gave these frames a nicer contrast and better dynamic range. It’s still over a decade old so the lower light shots showed up extra grainy. I took a little more time with this roll than the last and it lasted from Jan 6 through the 14th.

Day 006 - America This Is You

There's a lot to say about this frame but I don't even know where to start. I peeled myself away from the screens and feeds for a couple minutes to capture what the world looked like outside my front door at the same moment that domestic terrorists attacked the Capitol in D.C.

Day 007 - Mail Day

This box brought me a new (to me) XT-3. I’ve had the Fuji XT-3 before, but I traded it because I wanted a rangefinder style X-Pro 2, mostly for aesthetic reasons. I was lucky to be able to trade my way back to what I needed and I’ve been a happy camper ever since.

*Sidenote: Our house doesn't get very much direct, natural light. So I’ve started to look for these little pockets of light that manage to sneak through.

Day 008 - A Box

Kids are always happiest playing with the box.
Dads are always happiest when we find a good box to keep.

Day 009 - Ben & His Dad

I love this little series of mirror photos I have with my kids because I’m rarely in any of the photos of my family. It’s the photographer’s curse. Benjamin is our pandemic-born baby and I can’t believe how fast he’s growing. As of today, he recognizes whenever we call his name, claps when Oliver says, “Bravo”, waves when we say “buh-bye”, and he just continues to make me proud every single day.

Day 010 - Sad Mickey

I’m now constantly on the lookout for good pockets of light around the house. It’s like a project of its own, really. This frame wasn’t a great success in capturing what I saw in person. I’ll have to try again some other time.

Day 011 - At My Desk

What’s a piece of advice I’d give myself at this time last year?
Buy a good desk chair. You’re gonna need it.

*Again, here I am trying to capture the little bit of direct sunlight the creeps into our place

Day 012 - Espresso Tonic

These two ingredients don’t sound like they would go together, but much to the delight of my palate, they work quite well as a refresher. I was working with Mani at a local coffee shop on this particular morning.

Day 013 - On A Walk With Baby O

One of Oliver’s nicknames is “Baby O”. Who gave him the nickname? He did. He gave himself the nickname. Out of nowhere he just started declaring “I’m Baby O!” and it just stuck.

Day 014 - We’re Making Coffee

I’ve been making coffee with Oliver since he was tiny because growing up in my family, coffee has always been a way to express love and care for one another. My dad is well-known around the family for arriving at someone’s place1 with a giant thermos of home-brewed coffee under his arm. I can recall countless family gatherings, in someone’s home, late into the night, way past everyone’s bedtime and there’d always be a coffee pot putting in that overtime because nobody wanted to be the first to get up and leave. And, I really miss the simplicity of those times right now. I know Oliver will eventually grow out of his “we’re making coffee!” phase. He’s already starting to move on 💔. It’s ok… we’ll find something else to do together.

Talk soon,

PS: I made a HUGE mistake processing the next couple of rolls of film
The result… ZERO photos for about 12 days
☠️
That’s life. I still plan on recording episodes for each roll because, why not
